Intense

The year is looking like it is coming to a close. The rains are here and they moisten the soil like massaging the souls of everyone. 2010 is but a year, and there will be another year soon. Next year, there must be change. Radical, if not moderate. I'm leaving this year at this point, like a departure from the heavy periods of intensity that are roaring inside me. I have been reading Murakami. And I thought that it is rare to be connecting with this little part of the book. From Norwegian Wood, it reads:
'Please forgive me for not answering sooner. But try to understand. It took me a very long time before I was in any condition to write, and I have started this letter at least ten times. Writing is a painful process for me.'

"I want you always to remember me. Will you remember that I existed, and that I stood next to you here like this?"
— Haruki Murakami (Norwegian Wood)

At the heart of every soul,we are extremely insecure creatures with chronic low self-esteems. We easily admit our weaknesses and conceal them with our so-called strengths. Hindered by our blindspots, we don't go past a day without them.We live by consoling ourselves with affirmations, praises and compliments. We believe this is life. By an accident of sort,we discover our greatest strength could actually be our greatest weakness, we wail, and are severely punished by this inborn helplessness.

At its most primary level, Ader's art is concerned with falling and failing, searching and sadness. But in dealing with these tragic themes, the artist always remained a detached participant, manipulating his media and his body. He remained aware of his ultimate inability to express the sadness he found in the sublime. This failure, which may have deterred him, instead became the focus of his work.

My First Marathon

Strangely, after completing 21 km alone (for really most part of the time)and putting aside the experience of the maginificent scenery of the sunrise at the highway, I felt I don't owe anybody anything anymore.

Transitory moments

The ikea effect is when someone builds something pride and sentiment are likely to give them an inflated sense of quality.
The storm must go,surely it will go away.

Intelligence and Tears

til the cloud weeps, how should the garden smile

the weeping of the cloud and the burning of the sun are the pillars of this world:

twist these two strands together

since the searing heat of the sun and the moisture of the clouds

keep the world fresh and sweet

keep the sun of your intelligence burning bright and your eye glistening with tears

Blog Assignment 2

Find a Surrealist artist and one of his/her artworks to compare with 1 work by Lucia Hartini --- List down 5 similarities and differences in terms of techniques, use of color and subject matter.

Men Shall Know Nothing of This, 1923 by Max Ernst

Horse by the ocean , 1998, Oil on canvas, 60 x 70 cm by Lucia Hartini

Techniques
Hartini and Ernst
Oil-paints on canvas.
Brush strokes with occasional smooth blending.
Realistic portrayal -- textures, details, proportion and light/shadow to create 3D modeling.
Use of symbolism -- Hartini paints horses horses (signifying gentleness and virility), flowers (fragility, beauty and femininity), earth and sea (dynamic interacting forces of nature) to create personal narratives emblematic of contemporary Javanese gender relationships. While Ernst uses a single image narrative in this work where he references to the Elephant Celebes in Alley.A revolutionary and selef-destructive element that tells of deep and intense despair triggered off from the War.A kind of cuteness by the subsequent, reverential appreciation of Dada.

Use of colour
Hartini and Ernst
Hartini has a more obvious gradient or blending of colour. Her usage of dramatic colours is highly commendable. A perfect blend of black and blue of different shades seem to complement each other. Ernst is more conservative in the use of colours in which this work is generally of dull hues - greyish and bluish tones that signify a certain sense of pessimism.

Subject Matter
Hartini and Ernst
Most of Hartini's works are seeking to examine the intersecting boundaries of gender and culture in Indonesian society. They are relatively feminism-based.Ernst developed an autonomous system in which the origin of the separate elements is submerged in the final, total image. He was out to produce irritating imagery in which, as in the perfect crime, every clue to its identity had been erased. A posem is inscribed at the back of this work:

"The crescent (yellow and parachutic) stops the little whistle falling to the ground.
The whistle because people are taking notice of it, thinks it is climbing to the sun.
The sun is divided into two so that it can spin better.
The model is stretched out in a dreaming pose. The right leg is bent (a pleasant exact movement).
The hand hides the earth. Through this movement the earth takes on the importance of a sexual organ.
The moon runs through its phases and eclipses with the utmost speed.
The picture is curious because of its symmetry."

You Are Here

Take me to heaven, where your wings are strong,
bigger than the overcast clouds above.
Secure me with a love that fulfills all promises.
Anchor me with a belief that is undying.
Make me see more than what I know, feel more than I can.
So that I will never run away,
for only You can see me through.

To be of great thoughts

The process of dying is a process that begins with birth. It continues while we occupy ourselves with what is important in our lives: our careers, our families, our pleasures. Our death accompanies us all through our years, gradually taking our place until it exchanges itself for us completely. The event that will soon occur in your life has been preparing itself for every moment of your life.

Look to you -- Hillsongs United

I know You love
me I know You died for me
I know You care
I know You care

I know You live again
Your life for all my sin
Now I stand here in
In Your grace again

As I look into the sky above
Wonder how my life has changed
Wonder how Your love, it came to me
As I look into the sky above
All my fears, so far away
All I hear is heaven calling me

So I look to You
So I look to You
No one else will do
No one else will do

Two quotes to rmbr

this is what kenrus yee says about "Inception"
Inception is so awesome!
A word leads to a changed thought leads to a changed character leads to a changed destiny!
this is what Mal often says in the film,
You're waiting for a train. A train that will take you far away. You can't be sure where it will take you. But it doesn't matter - because we'll be together.
I love this.

Inception is my movie...

"Inception" by Christopher Nolan. This movie has struck more chords than one in me.It has drawn me to watch it not so much because it has hit US box office big time but because of the legendary name of Nolan, the man who
is obsessed with the human mind. This movie undeniably articulates my mind,it is brilliant in its generous showcase of the enigma of art and science.Dreams, the pivot of this movie, are assiduously  studied,dissected,re-created,as though meant for a dreamer like myself. Just heard that there are up to 6 interpretations for this movie but Im staying true to what I first understood. The ability to construct a whole new by the power of the mind is an amazing human feat,a great vortex of a mystery that is eternally insolvable. They say artists have that,to see an angel in the stone the way Michelangelo did,how we envision our artistic creations by a pure plug-in of imagination. "Inception" must the treasure trove of Nolan's lifework .It crackles with his passion that lends a cautionary tale to us never to stop believing in him.

The World of Trompe-l'œil (pronounced in French as "tom play")

Hi,
Since I have set the assignment, I can bend the rules. Instead of posting 1 image, I have greedily posted 5.
Always a fervent lover of street art for its activist spirit, these pieces of street art never fail to impress me.
Why are they realistic?
1) They trick the eye with the "trompe l'oeil" technique. According to Wiki, this technique creates extremely realistic imagery in order to create the optical illusion that the depicted objects appear in three dimensions, instead of actually being a two-dimensional painting.
2) They depict real-life elements -- e.g. humans in correct proportions, the coke bottle and laptop
3) The humans' expressions are not exaggerated or set up in theatrical dramatic ways.
4) The contrast of light and shadow used is apparent especially in that of the coke bottle.
5) The monumental scale of the floor painting allows one to be fully immersed in the experience of viewing the work.
6) It duplicates reality as close as possible.
7) It invites interaction because of its impressive scale and realism in the technique.
8) It creates the possibility of another world by transporting us into the creation of another reality (which is one of the main functions of Art)
9) It does not defy gravity.
10) The rendering of the water is extremely realistic with the transparency created.

Coldplay-The Scientist

Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry
You don't know how lovely you are
I had to find you, tell you I need you
Tell you I set you apart

Tell me your secrets and ask me your questions
Oh, let's go back to the start
Running in circles, coming up tails
Heads on a science apart

Nobody said it was easy
It's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard
Oh, take me back to the start

I was just guessing at numbers and figures
Pulling the puzzles apart
Questions of science, science and progress
Do not speak as loud as my heart

But tell me you love me, come back and haunt me
Oh and I rush to the start
Running in circles, chasing our tails
Coming back as we are

Nobody said it was easy
Oh, it's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be so hard
I'm going back to the start

Oh ooh, ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ah ooh, ooh ooh ooh ooh
Oh ooh, ooh ooh ooh ooh
Oh ooh, ooh ooh ooh ooh

Your Guardian Angel

When I see your smile
Tears run down my face I can't replace
And now that I'm stronger I've figured out
How this world turns cold and breaks through my soul
And I know I'll find deep inside me I can be the one

I will never let you fall
I'll stand up with you forever
I'll be there for you through it all
Even if saving you sends me to heaven

It's ok. It's ok. It's ok.
Seasons are changing
And waves are crashing
And stars are falling all for us
Days grow longer and nights grow shorter
I can show you I'll be the one

I will never let you fall
I'll stand up with you forever
I'll be there for you through it all
Even if saving you sends me to heaven

Cuz you're my, you're my, my true love, my whole heart
Please don't throw that away
Cuz I'm here for you
Please don't walk away,
Please tell me you'll stay, stay

Use me as you will
Pull my strings just for a thrill
And I know I'll be ok
Though my skies are turning gray

I will never let you fall
I'll stand up with you forever
I'll be there for you through it all
Even if saving you sends me to heaven

"Our relationship was beginning to feel like the spinning movement of a child's top. When we were together, we had the power to keep it spinning and the result was beauty and magic and an almost childlike sense of wonder; when we separated, the spinning began inevitably to slow. We became wobbly and unstable and I knew I had to find a way to keep us from toppling over." -- "Dear John" by Nicholas Sparks

Never Knew I Needed

For the way you changed my plans
For being the perfect distraction
For the way you took the idea that I have
Of everything that I wanted to have
And made me see there was something missing, oh yeah

For the ending of my first begin
(Ooh, yeah yeah, ooh, yeah yeah)
And for the rare and unexpected friend
(Ooh, yeah yeah, ooh, yeah yeah)
For the way you're something that I'd never choose
But at the same time, something I don't wanna lose
And never wanna be without ever again

You're the best thing I never knew I needed
So when you were here I had no idea
You the best thing I never knew I needed
So now it's so clear, I need you here always

My accidental happily
(Ever after)
The way you smile and how you comfort me
(With your laughter)
I must admit you were not a part of my book
But now if you open it up and take a look
You're the beginning and the end of every chapter

You're the best thing I never knew I needed
So when you were here I had no idea
(When you were here)
You the best thing I never knew I needed
(That I needed)
So now it's so clear, I need you here always
(Now it's so clear)

Who knew that I could be
(Who knew that I could be)
So unexpectedly
(So unexpectedly)
Undeniably happier
Sitting with you right here, right here next to me
Girl, you're the best

You're the best thing I never knew I needed
(Said I needed)
So when you were here I had no idea
(When you were here)
(Said I had no idea)
You're the best thing I never knew I needed
(That I needed)
So now it's so clear I need you here always
(Now it's so clear)
(So clear, so clear, I need you always)

Now it's so clear, I need you here always

Plain White T's 1234

1-2-1-2-3-4
Give me more loving than I’ve ever had
Make me feel better when I’m feeling sad
Tell me I’m special even though I know I’m not
Make me feel good when I hurt so bad
Barely getting mad
I’m so glad I found you
I love being around you
You make it easy
Its as easy as 1-2-1-2-3-4
There’s only one thing
To Do
Three words
For you
(I love you) I love you
There’s only one way to say
Those three words
That’s what I’ll do
(I love you) I love you
Give me more loving from the very start
Piece me back together when I fall apart
Tell me things you never even tell your closest friends
Make me feel good when I hurt so bad
You’re the best that I’ve had
And I’m so glad I found you
I love being around you
You make it easy
It’s easy as 1-2-1-2-3-4
There’s only one thing
To Do
Three words
For you
(I love you) I love you
There’s only one way to say
Those three words
That’s what I’ll do
(I love you) I love you
(I love you) I love you
You make it easy
It’s easy as 1 2 1 2 3 4
There’s only one thing
To Do
Three words
For you
(I love you) I love you
There’s only one way to say
Those three words
That’s what I’ll do
(I love you) I love you
(I love you) I love you
1-2-3-4
I love you
(I love you) I love you

Because you live

Staring out at the rain with a heavy heart
It's the end of the world in my mind
Then your voice pulls me back, like a wake-up call

I've been looking for the answer, somewhere
I couldn't see that it was right there
But now I know what I didn't know

Because you live and breathe
Because you make me believe in myself
When nobody else can help because you live girl
My world has twice as many stars in the sky

It's all right, I survived, I'm alive again
'Cause of you, made it through every storm
What is life? What's the use? If you're killing time

I'm so glad I found an angel
Someone, who was there when all my hopes fell
I wanna fly looking in your eyes

Because you live and breathe
Because you make me believe in myself
When nobody else can help because you live girl
My world has twice as many stars in the sky
Because you live, I live

Because you live, there's a reason why
I carry on when I lose the fight
I want to give what you've givin' me always

Because you live and breathe
Because you make me believe in myself
When nobody else can help because you live girl
My world has twice as many stars in the sky

Because you live and breathe
Because you make me believe in myself
When nobody else can help

Because you live girl
My world has everything, I need to survive
Because you live, I live, I live

show me ur books and i will show you your future.

"On more than one occasion I have been ready to abandon my whole life for love. To alter everything that makes sense to me and to move into a different world where the only known will be the beloved. Such a sacrifice must be the result of love... or is it that the life itself was already worn out? I had finished with that life, perhaps, and could not admit it, being stubborn or afraid, or perhaps did not known it, habit being a great binder. I think it is often so that those most in need of change choose to fall in love and then throw up their hands and blame it all on fate. But it is not fate, at least, not if fate is something outside of us; it is a choice made in secret after nights of longing.
... I may be cynical when I say that very rarely is the beloved more than a shaping spirit for the lover's dreams... To be a muse may be enough. The pain is when the dreams change, as they do, as they must. Suddenly the enchanted city fades and you are left alone again in the windy desert. As for your beloved, she didn't understand you.
The truth is, you never understood yourself."
— Jeanette Winterson (Sexing the Cherry)

If art is a soldier

If art is a soldier
There is melody
As colorful as the sunrise
Strengthen our spirits
Share our thoughts

If a soldier is gentleness
It's enough to harmonise
The melody of love
Along with affection and hope
With beauty and compassion
Beauty and compassion

Art fighting and sharing
Moving and giving
Love is the commander
If peace is the ruler
Fight together
Until the end of our days

true voice of the ghetto

What is it about art that we give it so much importance? Artists are respected by the poor because what they do is an honest way to get out of the slum using one's sheer self as the medium. The money earned is proof pure and simple of the value of that individual. From: Basquiat 1996
